DGR Status Checker
Check if an Australian charity has Deductible Gift Recipient status — meaning your donations are tax-deductible. Search by name or ABN.
What is DGR Status?
Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status means an organisation is endorsed by the ATO to receive tax-deductible donations. Only donations to DGR-endorsed organisations can be claimed as tax deductions.
There are two types of DGR endorsement:
- DGR Item 1 — The organisation itself is a DGR (most common)
- DGR Item 2 — The organisation operates a fund/authority listed by name in tax law
Not all registered charities have DGR status. An organisation can be registered with the ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission) without being a DGR.
How to Verify DGR Status
1
Search the ABN Lookup
Visit abn.business.gov.au and search by ABN or name. DGR status appears under "Deductible Gift Recipient".
